Honoring a lifetime of aviation, service, and mentorship by helping the next generation of pilots take flight.
Dave Hooper discovered his love of flying at just 13 years old, beginning a lifelong journey defined by skill, service, and mentorship. What started as a young pilot’s curiosity grew into a distinguished aviation career spanning the military, corporate aviation, commercial airlines, and ultimately flight instruction.
Military Service & Flight Instruction
Dave served in the United States Air Force flying aircraft such as the T37, T38, T29, T33, and OV-10 during his Forward Air Controller tour in Thailand. He later became an instructor pilot in the T39 and completed the USAF Instrument Pilot Instructor School, helping shape future aviators with precision and care.
A Distinguished Aviation Career
Dave went on to fly for United Technologies and then spent 29 years with American Airlines as a Flight Engineer, First Officer, Captain, and Check Airman. His professionalism and calm leadership earned him deep respect across the industry.
A Legacy of Teaching
In retirement, Dave returned to teaching — the part of aviation he loved most. At Blue Skies Flying Services, he mentored new pilots with patience, humility, and genuine joy.
The Dave Hooper Memorial Scholarship honors that legacy by helping future aviators take flight with the same passion and possibility that defined Dave’s life.
Applied directly to the recipient’s training account for aircraft rental, flight instruction, or ground school.
